We will allow another week or so for remaining petitions to be posted back, before arranging for them to be presented in the Federal Parliament via Andrew Wilkie.
We had 2600 signatures at last count.
This campaign has grown massively since this website was started on June 23rd. The primary purpose of this site was to provide a way to distribute paper-based petitions Australia-wide.
I am just one person, whereas the campaign is now in full swing among conservation and fishing groups. There seems little point in me duplicating their efforts (for eg http://stopthetrawler.net/)
Therefore I will only perform minimal updates to this website from today onwards. However the automatic Twitter and newsreel feeds will continue.
There are some videos below that provide food for thought.
Thank you all sincerely for your support and good luck with the campaign.
Regards to All .. Tony

What has not emerged in all I have been able to find on this issue on the net is that although AFMA "claim" the quota will be regulated and the operation observed etc etc, there is absolutely nothing to stop the vessel fishing outside the 200 mile zone once she has an Australian registration to be able to fuel and offload in our ports. Once there, there is no limit, no rules, no observers, no anything. She may pillage to her hearts content and bycatch and collateral damage to other species (incl dolphins and seals) becomes irrelevant. As Australia is a signatory to the convention to prevent global overfishing, why has this not even been mentioned? Additionally her 17 tonne quota could be more than doubled as Seafresh is able to buy up ITQs from other fishers who do not have the vessels to utilise them.Seems there are a lot of matters not even being raised and a lot of questions not asked.
